Chapter 12 — “Black Hurricane”

Re; A Hero’s New Life in a New World!

Chapter 12 — “Black Hurricane”

Revchi noticed the Dragon in the center of the grimoire that just arrived. It possessed five wings. Normally, a person in the country of Lugnica would have a grimoire that had a Dragon with three wings. However, although very rarely, it was possible for one to attain a Dragon with four wings.

Each of the wings represents a virtue: Faith, Hope, and Love. Within the fourth wings, dwells good luck. …Within the fifth wing… resides… the devil.

The chain Magic user walked back, with slight fear in his eyes. He knew that something powerful had just awakened in Subaru, so he was being cautious. The floating grimoire opened and began to turn its empty pages. It finally stopped turning once it reached a page with words written on it. From that page, a large dark broadsword began to come out of it.

The sword was mostly covered in dirt and had scuff marks. The blade and the hilt were separated from each other and connected by a fuller. The hilt appears as the handle to a normal longsword, while the blade was huge and has a pointed tip while the base is pointing inward, creating an angle.

     “…Your magic?!”

Subaru grabbed the sword and used it to stand up. Subaru’s shadow did not resemble him. It resembled a devil’s.

“W–What is that grimoire and that sword?! Just who the hell are you?! You… You little wretch with no Magic abilities!”

Revchi created a giant grey portal behind him. From there, several chains were created, and hurled towards his opponent. Subaru lifted his sword, and, with one slash, all of the created chains were destroyed.

     “He… nullified my attack?!”

Subaru dashed towards Revchi, destroying all the chains that were sent his way. Ram and Rem could only watch this with surprised expressions. They never would’ve expected that, Subaru, of all people, would even be able to combat a Magic Knight—or anyone else, for that matter. Once Subaru was close enough, he swung his sword, and hit Revchi—sending him flying to a wall, in the process.

Everyone stopped what they were doing. Emilia was shocked but happy at the same time, at the fact that Subaru was able to defend himself. Ram and Rem couldn’t process what just went on—or how he was able to nullify the chains. Justice looked proud, like how a parent would be, with their child.

     Raven clicked her tongue.

“Hmph,” she said. “Who would know that, that boy would be able to utilize Anti Magic? Well, many factors stated that, I guess.”

Subaru used his sword to hit the chains wrapping around Rem and Ram. One touch with the sword made the chains dissipate. Revchi struggled to get up, but nevertheless, managed to stand. He was radiating a dark aura, and held onto his open grimoire in his hands. “Tch,” he said. “You’ll pay for that, brat.”

     He raised his hand upwards.

     “[Chain Magic]: Enkidu!”

A large gray portal appeared, hiding the most of the ceiling from view. Many chains with pointed tips were created by the portal, and all of them launched themselves towards everyone, save for Raven and Revchi. Everyone used their Magic, or weapon, if they had one, to deflect the chains.

A woman stood in front of the Roswaal Mansion. She possessed long, wavy, violet hair, as well as violet eyes that shimmered. She wore a dark dress, had a pendant on her neck, and a mage’s robe, which she wore to cover her rear end, and arms.

“Could this be the right place?”

She asked herself, as she put her hands on her hips, and continued to scan the Mansion, in front of her.

     “I should trust Garfield’s words.”

She walked over to the doors of the Mansion, looking unimpressed. She knocked on the doors, and waited for a response. Moments would go by, and no one would open one of the doors, and invite her inside. She continued to wait, getting more irritated by the fact that nobody was answering her, each second.

“Screw this, I’m royalty! I don’t need to wait for anyone!”

The woman—Aisha Landar—pushed the doors open. Everyone in the Mansion was too busy fighting, to even notice her. This further irritated her, even more. She extended her arm and crushed the air in front of her, with her hand. Suddenly, everyone’s magic disappeared. No one was able to move, either. Everyone’s eyes went towards the girl standing at the door.

“Listen up, everyone! I am Aisha Landar, the heiress of the Landar family! I am looking for a mage named Roswaal L. Mathers! If you’ll be ever-so-kind and lead me to him, I’ll appreciate it.”

“…Did you schedule a meeting with him?” Ram asked her.

“N–No! Why would I need to? I am royalty, after all!”

“Roswaal-sama is a busy man. Many people have scheduled a meeting with him, but they still have to wait an elongated period of time. Regardless if they are a royal, noble, or even a commoner.”

     “H–Huh?!”

Aisha was in a state of shock. She traveled to many different cities, and finally arrived in her planned destination.

“Tell you what,” Justice said. “If you help us defeat those two in this battle, we’ll try to convince Roswaal to talk to you, as soon as he comes back.”

She looked at everyone, contemplating what to do. Finally, she sighed.

“Fine. I don’t like meddling in the affairs of the others, but since this benefits me, I guess I’ll have to.”

She then undid her spell. Allowing everyone to be able to move again. She summoned her staff. She began to radiate mana and emit a strong purple aura, much to the surprise of all the others. She extended her arm that was holding her staff, and held her other arm back, as if she was using a bow. Thin violet-colored lines would appear, acting as the arrows she would fire.

     “[Aether Magic]: Failnaught.”

As she fired her “arrow,” it split into many more violet streaks and rained havoc on Raven. As the Magic attack continued, a cloud of smoke would be created, and get bigger, the more arrows that rained. Everyone could only be astonished by the sheer destructive capability of Aisha’s Magic. As the attack stopped, everyone’s eyes went over to Revchi, who had a corvid sitting on his shoulder.

The aforementioned bird jumped into the air, and transformed into Raven. She scratched her head, with a disappointed expression on her face. She swiftly pulled out her sword from its scabbard and sliced the air in front of her. Doing so allowed her to create a red portal.

“Can’t believe I had to use that to escape,” she muttered to herself.

“C’mon Revchi. As much as I hate fleeing from a battle, it looks like we have to. That girl is bad news, and we don’t have much of a chance at winning this battle, with our numbers.”

She walked into the red portal and disappeared. Revchi did the same, although he eyed down Subaru while walking. Immediately, Subaru told everyone about the shaman cursing everyone in Irlham Village. Although it took some convincing, it was finally decided that Subaru and Rem would head to the village, while Ram and Justice stayed back and protected Emilia, all the while Aisha would stay at the Mansion.

An air of anxiety and uneasiness filled the Roswaal Manor. Around 30 minutes have gone by, and there was no word from neither Subaru nor Rem. Emilia, Ram, and Justice all expected Subaru and Rem to come out of the front doors and talked to them once again, but nothing happened. Aisha continuously waited for Roswaal, without needing to be worried about anyone.

Eventually, Justice couldn’t take it anymore, and walked out of the room everyone was in, and headed straight for the main doors. He couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to do anything, or the thought of Subaru, Rem, and all of the villagers dying, without a single savior.

     “—Justice-sama, where are you going?”

“To the village. Something’s definitely wrong.”

“I understand that you are worried about those two, but we need to protect Emilia-sama. It is what Roswaal-sama told us to do.”

“My job is to protect both Emilia and Subaru. If anyone were to attack the Mansion, I’m sure that you, Beatrice, Aisha, and Emilia working together would be able to stop them.”

“…Fine, you may leave. If you happen to find Barusu goofing around, please hit him on the head, for me.”

     “Right!”

Justice dashed through the Mansion doors and summoned a lion made from Fire Magic. He hopped on the animal and rode it. A few minutes later, he would arrive at Irlham Village. Justice went up to a villager and asked them questions.

     “Excuse me, but what happened?”

“Many of the children from this village went missing. Subaru-sama and Rem-sama rescued them, though.”

“That’s good to hear. Do you know where they are right now?”

“Of course. They’re in that house, over there. They were attacked by Demon Beasts, and were severely injured.”

Hearing that, Justice rushed towards that house. He pushed through the crowd that was swarming that area. Inside the house, he saw Subaru sleeping in a bed, in very bad condition. Next to the bed, Rem was sitting on a chair. She wasn’t as injured as him, but she was still crying.

     “Rem!”

She turned around and saw Justice.

“Justice-sama…! Rem is… Rem is sorry! It’s because of Rem that Subaru-kun is injured!”

“Rem, it’s not your fault. You were there to fight by his side. I knew I should’ve gone, as well. …You stay there, I’ll be back.”

Soon, the entire Roswaal Manor—save for Roswaal and Gordon—had arrived at the village. With Puck’s help, they were able to get Beatrice to leave the Forbidden Library and help them. Although she didn’t want to, it was agreed that Aisha and Emilia would focus on healing the physical wounds of Rem, Subaru, and the children.

It was also decided that Justice and Ram would take care of the children, and ensure their needs. While, Beatrice and Puck would go around, curing the curses placed on Subaru, Rem, and the children. Everything seemed to be looking up, until…

“In less than half a day, this boy will die, I suppose.”

Justice, Emilia, and Rem all were shocked to hear this.

“I thought you got rid of the curses,” Justice exclaimed.

“When the pack of Demon Beasts attacked him, all of them placed a curse on him. Since too many curses have been placed on him, it makes everything too complex for Betty to remove, I suppose.”

Rem stood up from her chair as fast as she could.

“Are you just going to give up? Isn’t there anything we can do?”

“You have two options. Either, you wait for the clown and Magic Knight to get back and heal him, or, get rid of all the Demon Beasts that bit him. I wouldn’t go for the first option, but the second option is riskier.”

While Ram and Aisha did not show much reaction to what Beatrice stated, Justice, Rem, and Emilia, were all visibly upset by what she said. Rem looked at Subaru with eyes of pity. “I swear,” she muttered. “I’ll save you.”

Later, Justice went back to the Mansion, to see if anything had been stolen, which, luckily, nothing was. He then went back to the village, walked around and saw some of the kids playing around, with each other. A smile grew on his face, seeing this. The children noticed that he was there, and ran up to him.

     “Justice!”

     “How are you?”

     “Hi!”

He was happy to see that they were back to their cheery old selves.

“I’m good. Do you guys know if Subaru woke up, or not?”

Petra Leyte—one of the children—had long, reddish-brown hair that extended to her shoulders along with cyan eyes. She tilted her head out of confusion.

“I thought Subaru and Ram-chi were in the forest?”

     Hearing this, Justice’s eyes widened.

“Excuse me, but I have to go talk to some people.”

Justice rushed over to the house where Subaru was staying. He opened the door. He saw Beatrice playing with Puck, Aisha leaning next to a wall with her eyes closed, and Emilia sleeping on a chair. Judging by the scene in front of him, he already knew what was going on. Nevertheless, he wanted confirmation about what was going on.

     “Where are the others?”

     Puck floated over to him.

“Subaru and the pink-haired maid went to fetch the blue-haired maid, who was trying to get rid of all the Demon Beasts, so Subaru’s curse could be undone.”

     “…Huh?”

He ran out of the house and ran straight into the forest, hoping to be able to find Subaru, Ram, and Rem, before the Demon Beasts could get to them.

Ram and Rem were demons. As such, they had “Oni Bloodline,” which they could use to tap into their “Oni Form.” Doing so, allows them to grow a single white horn on their forehead, which would give their physical abilities a tremendous increase. The horn acts as a gate which gathers mana from the atmosphere.

However, using their Oni Form too many times in succession, or staying in that form for too long, would leave the user’s mind battered, and leave them unable to think straight, which was happening to Rem, at the moment.

Ram used up most of her Mana by fighting the Demon Beasts, so Subaru had to hold her. After Rem defeated most of the Demon Beasts in their area, she began to target Subaru, who was holding her precious sister in his arms.

“It’s the horn that’s making Rem act from her demon instincts. One good, solid hit, should bring her back to normal. Muster all your wisdom and courage, and do something, Barusu.”

“I actually have a plan, but it’ll probably make you mad.”

“If it’ll save my sister, I won’t get mad.”

     “Promise?”

     “I promise.”

“Now that you’ve promised that, you can’t get mad at me!”

Subaru threw Ram at Rem, who had no choice but to catch her. While the mind-broken Rem was catching her sister, Subaru took this opportunity to run close to her. He used the blade given to him from the villagers to attack Rem’s horn. The high-pitched sound of steel striking steel sharply echoed through the demon beasts’ forest.

Shrouded in a forest, some people were looming over a village—not Irlham Village, to be exact. There were a few men wearing white robes that covered their entire body. There were others. One of them was a beast-man, who was hairy, tall, and was very muscular—Vetto, the man that fought Aisha.

He was a tall man with a lean built with spiky green hair that is slightly brushed back and two strands that hang in the front. He wore a double-breasted and long-sleeved shirt with a high collar and red trimmings on the edges. The collar also had a chain connecting both ends of the collar as an ornament.

The shirt itself was made of two different colors where it is white at the side and red in the middle. The sleeves were mostly in white fabric, except the wrist area where it was red fabric. The shirt extends below his waist and he also wore a light-colored sash on top of it. Furthermore, he wore white pants and a pair of high boots. The black boots also had fur around the collar.

On top of everything, he wore a beige capelet with blue fur.

“What,” Vetto asked the few men wearing the white robes. “Were you not able to find it?”

“N-No, sir. We were not able to find it.”

“Tch. Go look again. Do not talk to any of the Humans, or let them see you.”

     “A-Alright, sir.”

The robed men split up and disappeared, leaving only Vetto and the other man, alone together. The man stared at Vetto, who was facing the other direction. Staring at him, made him remember, something that happened in the not-so-distant past. Back then, Vetto possessed shorter hair than he did now.

The man was laying down in a cave. He had been ambushed by humans. He had no hope of surviving or being rescued. He noticed glowing spheres of orange magic around him. He turned his head, and saw a “Divine” Form. Vetto.

“I sensed you here,” he said. “There’s nothing to worry about, anymore, Alecdora Sandora.”

“—I guess this was the area we agreed to meet at.”

Someone’s voice snapped Alecdora back into present time. The two saw someone—likely a man—walking towards them. He had the appearance of an anthropomorphic cat-like monster, with light-colored fur and a choker with a bell attached to it. He possessed horizontal stripes across his back and tail with three vertical stripes crossing his forehead to the back of his head.

Alecdora quickly stepped front of Vetto, and extended his arm at the newly-arrived person. Dust began to swarm around his body. He narrowed his eyes at the cat, and asked: “Who are you?”

Vetto put his hand on his shoulder.

“It’s okay, this guy’s helping us find the Magic Stone.”

“More or less. I simply just told you that the Magic Stone you are looking for was located in this village.”

“Speaking of that, are ya’ sure it’s in this village, or ya’ lying? My men have been searching for a while, but haven’t found anything.”

“I personally don’t know, as I’ve just repeated what our leader told me. It’s likely that you haven’t found the stone yet, due to the fact that you’ve been completely ignoring humans. No one has said that a human doesn’t have a stone.”

     “Keh…”

“Ah, I forgot your Elf-Tribe has bad standings with humans. I apologize for suggesting that. I apologize for recommending that option, but, still, the Monster Association has done their part of the deed, now it is time for you to do yours.”

Nyan held a small bottle in his hands. He opened the lid of it. Vetto’s arm glowed an orange aura. He held his hand over the bottle Nyan was holding. Slowly, the orange aura began to transfer inside the bottle. Once all of the orange-light was inside of the bottle, Nyan closed the lid.

“Why did ya’ even need that?”

“Our leader, Gyoro Gyoro, has the ability to create Monster Cells. They have the appearance of pulsating sludge, and if one were to eat one, their limiters would rise significantly, at the cost of losing their main race, and the ability to grow further. However, to create one, Gyoro Gyoro needs strong Mana, and it happens to be, that you elves have Mana almost comparable to demi-gods.”

Nyan extended his palm, revealing a Monster Cell in his hand.

“Take one. Despite you being powerful, humans, nor any other race, are to be underestimated in battle. I’ll give this one to you, for free, anthropomorphic beast to anthropomorphic beast.”

Nyan placed the Monster Cell in Vetto’s hand. A portal then appeared behind him, and he walked into it. Vetto stared at the cell in his hand, wondering what he should do with it. Soon, he felt the warm embrace from someone, behind him.

“I’m going to be honest when I say this, but, I love you, and I always have, ever since that day—the day you saved me.”

Alecdora closed his eyes and waited for Vetto to push him away, and scold him for “dozing off” while they were on an important mission. However, much to his surprise, it never happened. In fact, it seemed like Vetto was enjoying the embrace.

     “You’re not mad…?”

“No… Ever since that day—when an Elf and a Human got married—I’ve always thought that love had no bounds.”

0148-012

“I’ve loved you too, Alecdora.”

Author’s Comments

Hey, hey, hey, I’m back! Sorry for the lack of “Author’s Comments” last Chapter. I felt lazy, and didn’t want to include my comments in that Chapter, so I let the Emilia Camp do a Q&A, in my place. I’m planning to do more of those in the future, as I’ve really enjoyed making one so you can expect to see similar ones, soon.

Ah, the girl from Chapter 6 finally makes a return! Don’t worry, she’ll get more spotlight in the future! Along with more character development and growth which she shall experience. The last part of this Chapter took me two days to finish, lol. Mainly due to procrastination, and because I didn’t know how to end it.

Anyway, I just want to come out and apologize for the amount of information you may need to gauge, for this series. I love foreshadowing things, which explains lots of the things the characters say, and stuff. What pains me to say, is that Arcs 1 — 4 will all be sort of a prologue, and that the main story will really start around Arc 5. Rip me, man.

Until Next Time!

— Mugen
