Chapter 5 — “Hatred”

Re; A Hero’s New Life in a New World!

Chapter 5 — “Hatred”

The large fireball from above had set the Loot House, and everyone in it, ablaze—well, almost everyone. Elsa was still standing on the support beam from earlier, which was barely connected to the now-burning roof. She decided to jump off from there, to the one part of the house which was not burning, as even the other houses and areas near the Loot Cellar were burning.

She grasped her blood-stained arm, which was brutally aching. Her eyes were filled with rage. Since she promised all of them that she would be the one who would end up taking their lives. Of course, she knew the person who cast the fireball from afar.

“—Ah, Fana, you’ve angered me, a bit, by doing that.”

A woman descended from the air, slowly.

“…If I hadn’t done that you would’ve failed your mission. You know Mama doesn’t tolerate failure.”

The woman, named Fana, possessed thick, wavy, pink hair which falls just below her shoulders, and large sea-green eyes. In the center of her forehead is a purple, multi-faceted gem that is framed by a red tattoo.

She wore a high collared, furry maroon dress beneath the standard light hooded robe which she also wore, with open-toed, knee-high boots. She also carried a pouch with her that is strapped around her shoulder.

On her shoulder, was a red lizard, with four legs, yellow eyes, and two wings, that resembled that of a bat’s.

“I’m pretty sure she’d allow me to live, to kill them. She knows that the current Sword Saint is a very strong opponent, after all.”

“It seems that Salamander was able to take care of him,” she stated while staring at the roaring orange fire, that was covering the entire house. Salamander was a spirit so it wouldn’t be too questionable if it was able to defeat a mortal easily.

She pointed her arm at Elsa.

   “[Fire Magic]: Phoenix Feathers’ Robe.”

A robe of flames enveloped the Bowel Hunter’s body. The wounds on her body were gradually starting to disappear, and her stamina which she lost in the battle, was slowly starting to rejuvenate.

“Still though, I ask that you don’t take away my opponents from me, next time.”

“I shall try. I hated these guys. I hated them because they hurt you. I hate everyone that hurts you, Rhya, Vetto, Meili, Patolli! I hate everyone that even lays a finger on my friends!”

“—I am very sorry to hear that. Could I do something so you can forgive me?”

Immediately, the fire surrounding the house was dispelled, by a strong gust of wind. Once all the flames had dissipated, a man with flaming red hair, as well as blue eyes that shone like sapphires, could be seen standing.

Justice, Subaru, Vanessa, the Half-elf girl, along with the sleeping Rom, were behind him. They were all surprised at what had happened just happened. Reinhard wiped off the dust that had gathered onto his outfit. There was also some dust that clung to his face, which he also bothered to wipe off.

“I had to step in and take all of the damage from the attack, so no one would get hurt,” he said. He chuckled, “Goodness if I didn’t have the Divine Protection of Fire Avoidance, I certainly would have been burnt to a crisp.”

His eyes then went straight to the lizard resting on Fana’s shoulder.

“—That’s the Great Spirit of Fire, correct? Its power is truly one to not be underestimated. My Divine Protection nullifies Fire attacks by 80%, but, I was still able to feel all of the attack, somehow.”

Fana remained quiet. She was staring at the ground, her eyes, covered by her pink bangs. Everybody noticed that there was a warm Aura radiating from her body. As time passed by, the Aura kept on getting warmer and warmer.

“Reinhard! Can you do something about this ‘hot’ girl?! I don’t want to die after getting so far!”

“Ms., I am willing to let you two leave if you don’t harm any more people. Please leave now, or I’ll have to resort to violence again.”

Fana raised her head up, eyes full of anger.

“You were the one who hurt Elsa. I hate you. Die.”

Salamander released an enormous blaze of fire, at his opponent. “Reinhard,” Justice screamed. “Catch!” He threw his sword at the Sword Saint, who caught it. “Thank you, friend.” With the sword, he sliced through the beam.

The spirit flew off of her body, and high into the air. It began to fire many fireballs, in a similar manner to when Puck was firing ice crystals at Elsa. While, at the same time, Fana would be firing streams of flames, both of which, Reinhard would easily cut through.

Reinhard charges towards her. To everyone in the house, his ‘charge’ appeared to be a teleport. Just as he was about to slice her, she screamed, “I hate you! Don’t get near me!” Her scream had a shockwave-like effect, which pushed Reinhard back.

Vanessa and Subaru were quite shocked by this, meanwhile, Justice and the Half-elf girl were paying close attention to the two fighting.

“I see…” he said. “You truly are someone I cannot underestimate. My Divine Protection of Psychometry has told me that you have immense magic power, as well as an immense reserve of mana.”

He briefly touches the sword on his hips.

“…However, I would not say that the sword on my hip needs to be used in this situation.”

   “Reinhard-san! Don’t underestimate her!”

“No need to worry, Subaru. I am not underestimating her; I am simply stating facts.”

The pink-haired woman released a stronger Aura. The silver-haired girl almost collapsed. “C–Can I use your shoulder?” She asked Subaru, who excitedly allowed her to rest on his shoulder. Vanessa began to look around the room, looking worried.

   “What’s wrong, Vanessa?” Justice asked.

“My remaining threads are being burned. She definitely is no joke. We need to be cautious.”

   “Salamander, now.”

The Great Spirit of Fire flew over to the woman and landed on her hands. Moments later, it turned into a sword made out of fire. She raised one of her arms and pointed it at Reinhard.

   “[Crystal Magic]: Harpe!”

Multiple blades in the shape of a harpe manifested around her. “[Crystal Magic]: Nemean Armor.” Fana formed a set of armor consisting of a breastplate, spaulders, gauntlets, and greaves. The armor was composed of crystals with some of them protruding from the surface.

She dashed—or flew—towards Reinhard, and began to clash her weapon along with his, producing very loud sounds, as a result. The blades she created earlier, were then launched at Reinhard, flying with a rotative motion with the sharp edge at the outer side.

He managed to slash through all of the blades, as well as reward Fana with a kick to her side, making her fly back.

“To make this a fair fight, how about all three of you take me on?”

There were only two people in front of him, Elsa Granhiert, and Fana. And, there were only four people behind him, Justice Hendricks, Subaru Natsuki, Vanessa Enoteca, and the Half-elf girl—five people, including Rom. It appeared that Reinhard was talking to himself, until—

“Eh? You knew I was here?”

A petite girl descended from very high up the sky, like Fana did before. She possessed red hair that reached up to her neck and was tied with two black bows and amber eyes. She was wearing a black and white dress, with a red skirt, that had a black rose on it.

Additionally, she wore striped black and white thigh-high socks and was carrying a parasol with a black outer-side and a white inside.

“My Divine Protection of Psychometry has allowed me to know, Ms…”

   “Beatrice Flowerchild.”  beatrce.png

“Though, I don’t intend to fight. I’ll be happy just to watch this battle.”

“I see. However, I will not let any of you go. Judging by your power-levels, it’s safe to say that you all could potentially be a huge threat for Lugnica, in the future. But… the girl in the middle, Fana, was it? You seem to be the strongest, having an immense amount of Mana reserves, and being able to use two Magic types at the same time.”

   “I don’t care. Die.”

Salamander returned to its initial form and launched many fireballs at Reinhard, alongside Fana, who was doing the same thing. The man with red hair used Justice’s sword to slice through the flames and sometimes used his fists to disperse the fire.

As the two ‘monsters’ fought, everyone else could only be under suspense. Justice and Subaru were sweating profusely, all of Vanessa’s threads have been burned, and the Half-elf appeared that she was starting to lose consciousness. Fana’s heat was too much for them.

“My friends seem to be very worried and hurt. So, I shall wrap up this fight.”

He took to the fighting stance he did when he was battling Elsa. The sword in his hand began to absorb all the Mana in the atmosphere and proceeded to emit a blinding light blue light.

“I don’t think we can do anything right now. Elsa, Fana, let’s get out of here!”

She raised her arm up and created a portal. The three girls began to walk through the portal.

“—I’m sorry, but as I said before I cannot allow any of you to leave.”

Reinhard dashed towards the woman, fully intending to strike all of them down at once. He felt the sword in his hands hit something, but it wasn’t a human. The sword had collided with another sword, which was being held by a man he hadn’t seen before.

“…I’m sorry, but I can’t allow you to hurt them.”

The man appeared to be tall and slender, with white hair and gold eyes. He had red crescent tattoos with three buds framing the sides of his eyes, and two red dots above his eyes instead of eyebrows. His long hair was braided back into several long extensions with a Kippah covering the top of his head ending with a cross over his forehead with an eye etched into the center.

His attire consisted of dark- and light-colored robes layered over light-colored trousers, dark-colored boots, and a padded, light-colored shirt with a high collar. Tied around his waist are several belts with a long cord attached to one of them. The undershirt appears to have the same pattern as his Kippah.

“You can call me Patolli, Mr. Sword Saint. However, I’m not here to battle—”pat.png

“I’m only here to aid these women in escaping.”

He released a blinding light, which did not have any effect on Reinhard, due to his Divine Protection of Light Absorption. But, as he went to strike Patolli, he disappeared into the light, which led to Reinhard missing his attempted attack.

The house went silent for a few seconds after they all managed to escape. “Woooohhh,” Subaru exclaimed. “We survived! We survived! No Bad End 4 for me!”

“…What are you saying, Subaru?” Justice asked.

“Nothing! What matters is that we all survived!”

“I guess, but Reinhard,” Vanessa said. “How were you able to find us?”

“Well,” he looked over to the burnt and broken door, where a young girl, with golden-blonde hair, and red eyes stood. “She was desperately running around the streets, and asked for my help”

“That’s…” The silver-haired girl looked at Felt.

“Hold on, if she hadn’t brought Reinhard, we’d all have been destroyed. And I probably would have gotten Dead End 4!

“Even then, I let my guard down for a bit. Because of that, Elsa was almost able to strike Ms., over there. But you still managed to save her.”

   “That’s right!”

   Subaru faced the Half-elf.

“My name is Subaru Natsuki! I’m the one that saved you from that evil wench’s blade! So shouldn’t I get a reward from you? You agree right? Okay?”

   “O…kay?”

“It means “are we clear on that,” so…”

   “Okay?”

“O…Okay.”

“I, your rescuer, saved your life. So shouldn’t that mean you should repay me in kind? Wouldn’t it?”

“Alright, I get it. Only if it’s within my power, of course.”

He pointed at her and snapped his fingers. Then, he gave her a bright smile. “In that case, I only have one request,” he said to the girl. “Tell me your name.” A silence fell upon the house. Vanessa gave a wry smile, while Justice was shocked as to why he wanted such a small reward for saving her life.

Felt was a little confused, and Reinhard continued to smile so he wouldn’t seem as awkward as the others. The Half-elf and Subaru were staring at each other. Until the former began to chuckle.

   “Emilia.”

   “Huh?”

“My name is Emilia. Just Emilia. Thank you, Subaru, for saving me.”

Author’s Comment

Okay, maybe I lied last Chapter when I stated that this would be the final Chapter of Arc 1. I actually wanted to make this the ending Chapter of Arc 1, but then I thought to myself “Hey… 5 Chapters in Arc 1 just doesn’t seem ‘good enough’.” Yeah, crappy reason to make an extra Chapter, I know.

But I also realized that I need to incorporate stuff in this Arc, which I won’t be able to do in future Arcs. All of this will be continued next Chapter, along with a few stuff about Elsa, Fana, and Beatrice’s Assassination Organization, as well as introduce a new Character.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that all of this Chapter was made in two days. That explains why this Chapter was short, and everything here seemed a little too rushed. Since—as stated before—I’m trying to make this a weekly thing, and not a monthly one. because if i miss posting one chapter a week im probably going to forget and never continue it.

Until next time, see ya!
